It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. **Description of Work** The primary purpose of this position: Prepares for, plans and schedules inspections on a weekly basis using an inspection tracking system. Conducts onsite inspections of jail facilities and operations in assigned region to ensure facilities are in compliance with state rules, laws, and building code. Reviews jail documentation for compliance with state rules, laws, and building code. Identifies and documents problems or deficiencies in jail facilities. Reviews inspection findings with jail and responds to questions regarding findings. Conducts research of rules, laws, and North Carolina Building Codes and cites appropriate rule, law or code for a specific deficiency. Analyzes Plans of Correction (POCs) to ensure the deficient practice can be corrected in an acceptable manner and timeframe. For un-acceptable POCs, communicates why POCs are un-acceptable and helps jails submit acceptable POC. Schedules follow-up inspections to ensure that deficiencies have been corrected.
