The Traffic Survey Group of the Transportation Mobility and Safety Division is a specialized traffic data collection and analysis group that manages a Traffic Monitoring System (TMS) comprised of a Continuous, Coverage, and Project Count Program for meeting the general traffic data requirements of NCDOT. Traffic monitoring data is used to support, but not limited to, the Traffic monitoring data is used to support, but not limited to, the following: systems planning for urban and rural planning studies, validation of travel demand models, analysis for air quality conformity, project prioritization, traffic forecasting, pavement monitoring, safety analysis, commercial motor vehicle enforcement, research, and is widely used by other state agencies, local governments, and the public for other activities.
