Full Job Description
Amazon Publishing is seeking an innovative and market-savvy Editorial Director to shape the strategic direction of its audiobook program. You will be responsible for discovering and acquiring exceptional content, leading list planning, building new acquisitions pipelines, managing author, agent, and publisher relationships, and developing strategies for growing our audiobook business. This is a multi-faceted job in a start-up environment that requires flexibility, agility, and complex decision-making. Strong judgment, excellent interpersonal and data analysis skills, deep knowledge of publishing trends, and a passion for authors and innovation are essential. Key job responsibilities • Identify, evaluate, and acquire submissions, including monitoring trend and sales data • Develop and maintain relationships with agents and publishers, including leading negotiations and renewing license terms • Work closely with internal teams (e.g., production, marketing) to shepherd titles through publication and beyond • Design and implement strategies that encourage growth and innovation including distribution and retail opportunities About the team Amazon Publishing is the full-service publishing arm of Amazon. Our mission is to invent new and better ways to connect authors and readers. Basic Qualifications: - 5+ years of content creation or copy editing, including online publishing experience - Experience working with data and leveraging analytics to make decisions - Experience managing multiple projects and priorities across teams in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment - Experience in oral and written communication in English - Strong negotiation skills along with knowledge of standard publishing contracts and P&Ls - Experience managing and growing new author/agent/publisher relationships Preferred Qualifications: - Broad list of agent/publisher contacts - Experience working in audiobooks and understanding of audiobook landscape - Experience publishing across genres Amazo
