We are seeking an experienced Director of Software Development to lead SageMaker's next generation distributed training systems for AI models. The ideal candidate will drive innovation in model customization capabilities, focusing on advanced techniques such as reinforcement learning and model distillation to enhance our AI offerings. You will spearhead the development of optimized training engines that create significant price-performance advantages for our customers, enabling them to train larger models more efficiently. This role requires strategic vision to build and scale training applications and tools that simplify the AI development process while maintaining Amazon's high standards for performance and reliability. Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience - 10+ years of software engineering experience - 5+ years managing managers - Excellent verbal and written communication skills with tech and non-tech customers - Understanding of software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle including coding standards, build processes, testing, and operations Preferred Qualifications: - Experience building tier-1 ML/AI services - Experience managing or working with machine learning scientists or applied data scientists - Exceptional customer relationship skills including the ability to discover the true requiremen
