Full Job Description
1 big thing: Axios is seeking an execution-focused Director of Accounting to lead accounting operations, monthly close, treasury, tax, audit, compliance, and finance systems as our business and finance function continues to scale. Why it matters: Strong accounting operations create the foundation for faster, clearer, and more reliable business decisions. This role will help ensure our financials are accurate, audit-ready, and built to support continued growth. Go deeper: This role sits on our Finance team, manages one direct report, and partners closely with FP Sage Intacct experience preferred. Experience leading audits and managing relationships with external tax and accounting advisors. Familiarity with sales and use tax, state filings, nexus considerations, and compliance workflows. Strong analytical, project management, and process improvement skills, including leveraging systems, automation, AI, and workflow redesign to improve accounting operations. Advanced Excel and Google Sheets proficiency. Strong communication, cross-functional partnership, and stakeholder management skills. Experience managing and developing team members. High-accountability, execution-oriented mindset with comfort operating in a fast-paced environment. Starting salary for this role is in the range of $145,000 - $185,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation benefits. Axios' compensation philosophy takes into account the cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.
