Job Description **Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a NGIS Warehouse Specialist to support unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.** **Job****Summary** The **Deckhand** is responsible for assisting sea vessel operations transporting crew members, passengers and freight. **Principal Accountabilities** _(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract.)_ * Assists in standing lookout watch in traffic areas under all weather and sea conditions * Assists in the daily inspection of the operating condition of all emergency equipment * Attends to passenger needs and performs cleanup and maintenance duties * Provides good customer service to the travelling public * Participates in periodic all hands drills and emergency exercises * Operates safety gates and loading ramps, and maintains security about the decks * Reads all gauges and fluid levels in engine room and reports any problems to the captain * Reports all observations, actions and/or matters affecting the stability, operational capacity, safety and welfare of the vessel, crew, passengers, vehicles and other public properties to the captain or first deckhand * Handles lines, tie up barges in fleets or to docks * Make and break tow using all necessary equipment * Ensures applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes are observed * Conducts onboard maintenance, repairs, and regular onboard inspections to include machinery and equipment * Maintains and ensures the quality control of the motor vessel’s Preventive Maintenance System * Conducts on-site surveys of vessel equipment to determine maintenance and repair needs * Performs other job responsibilities as assigned **Knowledge & Skills ** * Good communication and customer service skills * Working knowledge of methods and procedures used in the
