It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! **Description of Work** Reporting to the Lieutenant, this position is responsible for the daily operation of an institution and ensures that security is maintained according to divisional policy and procedures. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: \- Supervising a shift of employees, conducting shift line-ups, making shift schedules, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. \- Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, all required custody reports, performance evaluations, and administrative forms. \- Reviewing all logs, reports, and required documentation from shift rotations. \- Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. \- Handling activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders. \- Conducting inspections of offender living areas, medical and kitchen areas, and the facility as a whole to identify possible safety hazards and to ensure operations are being followed by policy. **Knowl
