Eligibility Requirements

Ability to coordinate and attend events and meetings at times beyond usual working hours., Employment will begin with a training period of approximately three to four weeks., Upon successful completion of training, employees will be assigned to a specific high school, typically beginning the assignment in late August., Contingent on funding and acceptance by the program manager, the employee may be allowed to continue working an additional month to complete excess processing., At the end of this first contract period, advisors may be allowed to renew this contract for one additional term only, contingent upon funding and acceptance by the program manager., All positions are security-sensitive., Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation, and employment is contingent upon the institution’s verification of credentials and/or other information required by the institution’s procedures, including the completion of the criminal history check.

Must Have

Bachelor’s degree from an institution in the state of Texas, No experience required, Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions

Nice to Have

Experience working with high school students, Experience working with Admissions and/or Financial Aid, Background in general office conditions with significant time spent working with high school students, Bilingual in English and Spanish

What You'll Do.

Provides one-on-one admissions and financial-aid advice to any student or family seeking assistance.

Encourages each student to consider a broad range of appropriate college choices.

Develops for each student a comprehensive college timeline

including application deadlines for admissions and financial aid.

Helps each student complete and submit admissions

and financial aid applications.

Assists each student in interpreting correspondence from colleges

including offers of admission and financial aid.

Organizes group events that encourage students and their families to consider

and apply to colleges and universities.

and club meetings to offer Advise TX services and emphasize the importance of college.

Visits feeder middle schools to encourage early planning for college.

Works with local community groups and other social-service providers to offer group events outside school setting and community service hours.

Assists in the efforts of other Advise TX advisers within the service area and in the assessment and long-term sustainability of the program.

Visits other high schools in their assigned service area during school days.

Assists the program manager and evaluation staff to identify

and interpret key progress and outcome variables to evaluate the effectiveness of the Advise TX program.

Submits monthly progress reports to the program manager documenting progress and outcome data.

Ability to work as a regional/off-site team member in a dynamic organization; Assists in the efforts of other Advise TX advisers within the service area; Establishes productive working relationships with principals, counselors, and teachers in the assigned high school; Assesses, in consultation with the Advise TX program manager and school personnel, the particular needs of each school and adapts programs and activities to meet these needs.; Actively seeks the advice and counsel of the on-site supervisor at each partner high school.; Meets, as appropriate, with evaluators from the National Office or Texas A&M.; Represents Advise TX, as requested by the program manager, to potential supporters and to other interested parties.
