What You'll Do.
Ensure specimens are acceptable for testing
Prepare reagents and controls
and distribute specimens
Inoculate specimens on appropriate media
Initiate orders for blood components
Follow safety and infection control policies
Determine appropriateness of manual methods
Use computer system to compare patient results
Investigate discrepancies
Prepare and interpret gram stains
Perform routine procedures
Prepare blood components
Evaluate serological reactivity
Follow universal precautions
Disinfect counter tops
Operate clinical laboratory instruments
Conduct performance checks on instruments
Maintain clinical laboratory instruments
Analyze quality control material
Report quality control results
Perform comparison studies
Record proficiency surveys
Route form and reagent quality control
Assist in clinical orientation
Assure proper packaging of waste chemicals
Maintain documentation of generated waste
Perform order or result entry
Review information for accuracy
Document critical call value notification
Check instruments and benches for supplies
Replenish reagent and supply levels
Notify of low inventory items
Notify of out-of-date reagents
Record receipt of supplies and reagents
