## Description Job Description: Cath Lab Nurse – Cardiac Catheterization Lab Nurse Role Overview Cath lab nurses, also known as cardiac catheterization lab nurses, are integral members of the cardiac care team. They assist cardiologists and other healthcare professionals during invasive procedures such as angioplasty, stent placement, pacemaker implantation, electrophysiology studies, and valvuloplasty. Their primary responsibility is to provide direct patient care, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and respond to emergencies during high-risk cardiac procedures. Key Responsibilities Patient Preparation: Prepare patients for catheterization and other cardiac procedures, including explaining the process, obtaining medical history, and addressing patient concerns. Intra-procedural Care: Scrub and circulate during procedures, monitor vital signs, manage cardiac rhythms, and maintain a sterile environment. Post-procedural Care: Monitor patients for complications, provide recovery support, educate patients and families on post-procedure care, and document outcomes. Technical Duties: Operate and understand specialized cath lab equipment, assist with hemostasis devices, and ensure all procedural checklists are completed. Collaboration: Work closely with cardiologists, radiologic technologists, and other team members to develop individualized care plans and coordinate patient care. Professional Development: Participate in continuing education, clinical audits, and professional development activities to maintain competency in cardiac care. Required Skills and Qualifications Clinical Expertise: Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and catheterization procedures; ability to interpret EKGs and manage cardiac emergencies. Technical Proficiency: Skilled in operating cath lab equipment and maintaining sterile fields.
