Full Job Description
About the role Muon seeks a Camera Systems Engineer to join our team in Mountain View, CA developing infrared remote sensing instruments. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated engineer with a versatile skill set who is comfortable working across many layers of technical depth. The person in this role will fully own the delivery of infrared camera subsystems to multiple concurrent programs. Previous experience with development of camera subsystems for integration into complex electro-optical systems in fast-paced and small-team environments is preferred. This position is hybrid and requires working on-site in our Mountain View, CA office three days per week. Responsibilities Own development of visible and thermal infrared camera subsystems including generation of technical specifications and interface control documents (ICDs), trade studies, vendor technical management, performance characterization and testing, and failure mode and root cause analysis. Define camera test requirements, pass/fail criteria, and test strategies, partnering closely with the hardware and test engineering teams to ensure infrastructure meets subsystem needs. Define parameters for camera environmental qualification campaigns, including radiation testing and thermal environmental stress screening (ESS), reviewing test data and acting as the technical authority on camera subsystem health. Support subsystem and instrument-level testing, including environmental (vibration, thermal-vacuum (TVAC) testing and system characterization/V& V. Contribute to the continuous improvement of best practices, processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in instrument development. Collaborate and communicate effectively with instrument and spacecraft systems engineers, data scientists, AI&T and production teams, and program managers. Qualifications B.S., M.S., or Ph.
