Full Job Description
**CAD/CAM Specialist** **Life Unlimited.** At Smith+Nephew we design and manufacture technology that takes the limits off living. The CAD/CAM Specialist serves as a technical subject matter expert (SME) responsible for developing, standardizing, and optimizing multi-axis CNC machining strategies. The role focuses on process ownership, advanced CNC programming, and ensuring alignment between design, manufacturing, and quality functions within a regulated environment. **What will you be doing?** * The role is responsible for developing, standardizing, and optimizing advanced multi-axis CNC programming strategies using CAD/CAM software, while maintaining the integrity of CNC programs through structured file management. It involves leading the development of robust machining processes, including tooling selection, cutting parameters, fixturing concepts, and machining sequences, with strong emphasis on standardization, capability, and efficiency. * In addition, the role ensures alignment between design intent, machining execution, and inspection requirements through GD&T-driven strategies, while maintaining CNC programming governance in compliance with QMS standards. The position also includes executing programs for First Article Inspection (FAI), machine prove-outs, and continuous optimization based on actual performance. Close collaboration with Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams is essential to support DFM, process validation, risk mitigation, and new product introduction. * The position also provides technical leadership and mentoring to machinists and programmers, supports troubleshooting and training, and drives continuous improvement initiatives such as cycle time reduction, cost optimization, and quality enhancement. It contributes to the selection and commissioning of new equipment, ensures compliance with HSE and sustainability policies, and maintains strong cross-functional collaboration while supporting operational requirements
