What You'll Do.
Track pathology results
Prepare surgical packets
Ensure information and consents are available
Obtain patient history
Review pathology results
Prepare educational treatment packets
Perform surgical scheduling duties
Book and schedule procedures
Schedule treatment surgeries
Reschedule and cancel procedures
Reconcile medical and surgical history
Review medications and allergies
Document appropriately in EMR
Monitor Biopsy log for accuracy
Monitor timely receipt of results
Treat positive lesions
Initiate cancer tracking system
Manage physician pending bucket
Notify patients of results and treatment
Perform reminder calls prior to surgery
Review weekly provider schedule
Report malignancies to cancer registry
Prepare slide requests
Obtain past pathology reports
Submit slides and reports to outside providers
Upload biopsy site photos into EMR
Document specimen results in log book
Monitor courier pick up
Understand emergency procedures
Assist in training new staff
Perform clerical duties
Take accurate messages
Communicate problems to supervisor
Perform duties not directly assigned

The Biopsy Coordinator is responsible for scheduling procedures and preparing surgical packets. The Biopsy Coordinator ensures that all information and consents are available before the patient’s procedure. The Biopsy Coordinator also functions in the role with direct patient interaction including obtaining patient history, reviewing their pathology results and preparing educational treatment packets.
