What They're Looking For.
Must Have
15+ years of experience in catastrophe modeling of large property portfolios using RMS or AIR products, 7 years’ management experience with proven record of leading a sizeable team successfully, Expert level skills with manipulating large complex datasets including advanced knowledge of SQL, MS Excel and Access products and MS SQL server, Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills strengthened by the ability to effectively plan and manage multiple projects, Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify and communicate highly specialized and technical concepts to business leaders, Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, geography, engineering, or other like areas, Expert knowledge of RMS catastrophe models
Nice to Have
Knowledge of AIR, RQE, any other models is a plus, Experience in working with high value properties is preferred, Previous managerial experience preferred, Engineering or advanced degree in Mathematics, Statistics or MBA, Professional certificates like ARe, CPCU, CCRA etc. are advantageous, Expertise in Data Analytics/Insurance/Reinsurance/Modeling, Proficiency in Data Analytics tools like R, Python would be a plus, Knowledge of geospatial products and techniques is a plus
What You'll Do.
Directly lead an experienced team of several catastrophe modelers to prioritize deliverables and key projects to be completed
Establish and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely
and actionable catastrophe analytics
Update management on current technical and industry trends related to cat modeling
Critically assess accuracy and performance of the catastrophe models
Work with various stakeholders in implementing models’ enhancements specific to the niche products
and present critical insights and new ways to understand the portfolio in addition to pre-existing measurements and techniques
Educate various stakeholders regardless their area of expertise on cat management topics
Communicate the impact of the emerging catastrophe modeling tools to management
Manage the model changes from technical and analytical perspective
Communicate the impact on the company risk appetite
reinsurance purchasing needs and pricing Primary Insurance
Manage regular catastrophe roll-up process and reporting of the various lines/units of business
Engage various stakeholder’s counterparts to communicate the unit results
Perform and lead Quarterly Portfolio aggregation modeling and reporting of risk metrics including reasoning of Quarterly and Yearly changes in Exposures and AAL/PML
Independently supervise and perform complex catastrophe modeling analyses
Translate the modeling output into actionable recommendations to enhance underwriting and pricing models
Conduct Ad hoc analyses of issues related to Catastrophe and book management
Assess exposure data quality and its impact on cat management results
Continuously work on improving quality of the modeling data utilizing both internal and third-party data sources
Identify and lead automation opportunities of routine processes and workflows to enhance productivity and service levels
Lead Reinsurance modeling team that provides support to the Underwriters across different offices with assessing the Catastrophe PML risk and Expected Losses on modeled basis for multiple cedants with exposures spread across the globe
Guide the modeling team in assessing the Vendor Model changes on the Reinsurance portfolio and other change management requests
Liaise with the stakeholders on a continuous basis to evaluate and incorporate process enhancements
