What They're Looking For.
Must Have
Ph. D. , M. D. or other doctoral degree in a natural science or engineering discipline, or computer science/engineering, Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, bash scripting, high level languages such as C, C++, Fortran, data science using Python or similar programming environments, Perl or other scripting language, Skills in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data, Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems, Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions, Demonstrated knowledge of parallel and distributed computing technologies including programming experience in MPI, OpenMP, Hadoop, Python, and related tools, Experience or understanding in cloud computing, containers, and virtualization technologies, Good interpersonal communication skills, written communication skills, Ability to work in an office and datacenter environment, Demonstrated ability to interact positively with and manage varied technical personalities
Nice to Have
awareness or experience in data science using Python or similar programming environments, Familiarity with back up and disaster recovery technologies
What You'll Do.
performing laboratory experiments
performing various analytical procedures involving method development and application development and synthesis
Contributes to basic and applied research activities
Publishes in refereed journals
Supervises research employees and non-exempt staff
Writes extramural proposals
Creates and conducts experiments and analyzes results
Works with other researchers to use and develop end products
Provides ready access to all experimental data
Requests or acquires equipment and supplies
Applies for grants to continue research
prepares materials for submission to granting agencies and foundations
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures
safeguards University assets
provides consulting services for the installation
and testing of AI/ML tools and packages
assists users in advancing their research and training needs in data science and computing
Collaborates with other researchers and helps develop strategies to improve user training
outreach and engagement
evaluates new high-performance computing (HPC) architectures
provides application consulting and technical support to faculty
students and research staff using HPC environments
Serves as a research facilitator
Collaborates in the design and delivery of HPC and data science courses
Reviews user-facing documentation
Develops and submits grant proposals
Collaborates with UM faculty and other non-UM collaborators in improving ACS services
Assists the Director with accounting and policies for charge-back
and updates policies on allocation management strategies
