Must Have
License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant) as set forth by the state of Virginia., If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required., Eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine., Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required., Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
Nice to Have
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner Program or Accredited Physician Assistant Program., Minimum of three 3 years of clinical experience preferred., Additional experience may be required for some specialties., Current PALS/NPR, as required, specific to position., Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position., Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion Clinic, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies., Capable of meeting credentialing or job function requirements as needed based on the requirements of the practice and of managed care payors and insurers., Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinic’s malpractice insurance carrier.
What You'll Do.
Function as a primary health care provider.
Determine patient's health and medical status.
Perform physical assessments.
Initiate screening and diagnostic procedures.
Provide health maintenance.
and stable chronic illness.
Consult with physician as appropriate.
Assess and manage acute illness
minor trauma and chronic illness and conditions.
Analyze and interpret health data.
Discriminate between normal and abnormal findings.
Consult with and/or refer to other health care team members.
and prescribe appropriate treatment plans.
Administer medications and injections.
Perform or request laboratory and screening tests.
Conduct preventive screening procedures.
Record changes in health status and assessment findings.
Document actions in a clear and concise manner.
Determine the effectiveness of the plan of care.
Revise plan of care as necessary.
Provide patient/family education.
Develop plans for continued health care management.
Promote health maintenance activities.
Promote wellness through health education.
Coordinate necessary appointments and referrals.
Utilize automated computer systems.
Document patient information in electronic medical records.
Update treatment procedures
Make return phone calls within a specified timeframe.
Handle refill requests.
Act as a resource to patients
other health team members
and academic institutions.
Maintain patient flow.
Keep exam rooms filled.
